Elevator Project Phases
Detailed timeline of what happens in each phase. A retrofit elevator project progresses in clear phases from survey to commissioning. Each phase is carefully documented and we keep the housing company updated regularly. This transparency ensures everyone knows what to expect.
Phase 1: Survey and feasibility
1–2 weeksWe visit your building to assess technical feasibility. We measure the stairwell, check the structure and floor heights. We photograph the spaces and discuss wishes and budget with the board. We provide a written report including recommended solution, preliminary cost estimate, and next steps. This report helps the board present the project to the general meeting.
Phase 2: Design and permits
3–6 monthsAfter the general meeting decision, we begin detailed design. Structural engineer checks load-bearing capacity and prepares structural plans. Architect designs appearance and shaft placement. Elevator supplier prepares technical plans. We handle the building permit application and ARA subsidy application with all attachments. We inform residents about project progress.
Phase 3: Installation
2–4 monthsWhen permits are ready, we begin installation. First, the elevator shaft is built in the stairwell or externally. Rail structures and elevator machinery are installed. Elevator car and doors are installed on each floor. Electrical and safety systems are connected. We perform internal tests. The stairwell remains usable throughout using temporary structures. Noisy work is limited to weekdays 8 AM–4 PM.
Phase 4: Commissioning
2–4 weeksAfter installation is complete, official inspections are performed. The Safety and Chemicals Agency (TUKES) approves the elevator for use. We train housing company contact persons and maintenance staff on elevator operation. We hand over all documents: operating instructions, maintenance instructions, warranty terms, and inspection reports. The elevator is now ready for residents to use. Warranty period begins from handover.
Total timeline
The entire project from general meeting decision to operational elevator typically takes 6–12 months. Timeline depends on permit processing time, ARA application processing, and building complexity. We provide a precise timeline at the survey stage and update it regularly as the project progresses.
